Common Uses of AI Services:
-- single mothers seeking to take on the challenge of parenting alone or with the support of their community;
-- lesbian couples;
-- heterosexual couples with male factor infertility seeking conception with donor sperm.
We regret that we cannot help women whose spouses do not consent to the insemination; we cannot help guarantee a boy or girl; and we cannot provide advanced infertility services.
Getting Started
Clients considering AI start with a consultation visit in our office. The following visit can include your annual exam, pap smear and other necessary testing, if these have not been done recently.
If you've had a recent exam, bring with you to the consultation visit copies of all lab work, including your most recent pap smear report.
The AI consultation visit will include:
-- a thorough review of your medical history;
-- a discussion of preconception care and a prescription for prenatal vitamins or folic acid as needed;
-- a review of fertility facts, how to track menstrual cycles and methods of predicting ovulation.
You'll receive an information packet which will include materials from various sperm banks, health and nutrition information and an "important information" sheet with detailed instructions for the insemination process.
More...
At your consultation visit, discuss with your provider which procedure to use, and how often to inseminate. These decisions will be based on your age, financial circumstances, and other factors she will review with you. Your midwife or physician will help you develop your own insemination plan.
If you are considering AI, check with your insurance carrier to see what they will or will not cover. Most insurances will only cover the procedure after you have inseminated for at least 6 cycles at your own expense, and they rarely cover the cost of the sperm.
Some insurance plans will not cover until after 12 cycles of in-office inseminations.
What you'll need:
1. Semen specimens purchased from a sperm bank if you do not have a donor. Arrange to have the specimen(s) shipped to us before you need them. We can refer you to reputable sperm banks if you haven't already found one.
2. Ovulation predictor kit(s).
