Welcome to AICGB!

The Alternative Insemination Center of Greater Boston was founded to support lesbians and single women in achieving pregnancy. Alternative insemination (AI) is also available to heterosexual couples who need assisted insemination services. Certified Nurse Midwives (CNMs), in consultation with an OB-GYN physician, run our program.


The hallmarks of this program are:

1. Women provide the services for women.

2. You'll have one CNM as your primary resource person to help you through the insemination process, although another CNM or the OB-GYN may do the insemination procedures.

3. When you become pregnant, you can choose a CNM or an OB-GYN for pregnancy and birth care and receive care in the same office.

4. You may take advantage of our on-site storage facilities in case you'd like to have other babies in the future.

5. Our services are available 365 days of the year, and we'll get you started as soon as possible.


AI services are most often used by lesbian couples and single women, but heterosexual couples sometimes need AI services too.  For example, the male partner may have had chemotherapy or radiation for cancer, a low sperm count or poor sperm motility. He may be at risk of passing on a serious congenital condition or syndrome and his partner opposed to pregnancy termination for any reason.
